GaydarRadio - the UK’s No 1 gay radio station - is celebrating ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month throughout February 2006 - and also unveils a new, extended broadcast schedule with increased live programming, starting from Monday, February 27 2006, from 7am to 11pm each weekday. On February 28 2006, GaydarRadio changes its Sky EPG listing from 908 to 0158. LGBT History Month is a government-backed initiative to educate people about the rich tapestry of events that make up LGBT history, and to create better understanding between the LGBT community and the wider community at large. A series of school education initiatives are also being implemented at grass root level to end the official invisibility of gay people in the school community and curriculum. February 2006 will see a large number of events like art & photography exhibitions, conferences and celebrations taking place across the UK. (See http://www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk/events/calendar.htm for a full listing). LGBT History Month on GaydarRadio will reveal the top events, gays and lesbians in history as voted for by the LGBT community. The top three of each category will be placed in a final poll to discover the ultimate queer person and event in LGBT history that GaydarRadio listeners and Rainbow Network site visitors will vote for on line. The final results will be announced on February 28 2006. GaydarRadio will be interviewing Paul Patrick, one of the organizers of LGBT History Month, to discuss famous historical gay dates and prominent historical and modern queer people. Numerous vox pop interviews are scheduled for broadcast, with lesbians and gays talking about important queer events or people they think have made a significant contribution to history. Robin Crowley, Station Manager at GaydarRadio commented: “February is an extremely important month for GaydarRadio. Historically there hasn’t been a great deal of content broadcast in the UK about LGBT heritage. Our February schedule has been filled with exciting, engaging and informative content that will deliver a topical, rich and accurate account of the most revered people and events in LGBT history. Complimenting this content will be the dissemination of our Outright 2006 Research. Delivering for the very first time the substance behind the speculation and the tools to communicate empathetically to the gay and lesbian marketplace” Outright 2006 research results are revealed on the February 7. It’s the UK’s biggest survey into the lifestyles of UK gays and lesbians, commissioned by GaydarRadio, Channel 4 and OMD Insight, delivering for the very first time the substance behind all the press speculation surrounding the gay and lesbian market. The comparative research programme interviewed a robust sample of 18,000 gay and 4,000 straight respondents, aged between 16 and 55 years old. |
