CIVIL PARTNERSHIP>> Burton Woods Plans Seminars

Over 3000 Civil Partnerships have now been registered and the UKs largest lesbian and gay law firm,  BurtonWoods were pleased to kick off their series of legal advice events with Civil Partnership Seminars in London and Brighton.

Many of the attendees were clearly intent on joining the 3000 couples already benefitting from the new legislation.

Introduced by founding partner Judith Burton the legal advantages and disadvantages of registration were presented by BurtonWood’s family lawyer Jo O’Sullivan. She covered various topics ranging from ‘pre-nuptial’ type agreements to pensions and state benefits. The seminar was rounded off with a lively question and answer session conducted by founding partner Simon Woods.

Tax matters were also addressed by Terry Jordan of BKL Tax, who is a close associate of BurtonWoods. Many questions were asked on the various tax avoidance options available, with tax planning for second homes being the most popular topic.

Future subjects for BurtonWood’s planned seminars include Wills and Powers of Attorney, Adoption and Parental Responsibility for same sex couples and more on Civil Partnerships.

Check the website www.burtonwoods.com or telephone them on 020 7636 2448 if you’d like to be added to their database and invited to future events.
