TRAVEL>> Swedish sin
Spending a weekend in Stockholm is undoubtedly a unique experience, whatever your taste may be. Perpetuated by the myth of ’Swedish sin’ that emerged during the 1950s (in reference to the sexual history of the Scandanivains), why not venture to the sexually-enticing Lash Club? This female club has an MC arena and an SM section with a rigorous dress code! If you fancy something a little more substantial on your plate, then try restaurant/bar Roxy. Inspired by Almodóvar, it is run by four women and has recently won the prestigious accolade of Best Gay Bar in Sweden 2005. The interior is a retrospective mix of kitsch decadence from the 1920s offset by a quaint traditional bar. The crowd is predominantly women, and lipstick lesbians at that! Need I mention their food, which has the best tapas Stockholm has to offer!

If you like to party ‘til dawn, take a trip downtown to newly-opened club Rio, the girlie hotspot in the city. They also have a great kitchen, which has an extensive lunch menu and lively drag performances that go down a treat with the audience!

For a tasty Sunday brunch, take a trip to Torget decked out with chandeliers, luscious velvet curtains and lavish décor complimented by surprisingly reasonably priced drinks.

You should definitely not miss the Stockholm archipelago, with 24,000 islands facilitating picturesque restaurants, hotels and youth hostels while smaller islands have only natural harbours or are entirely deserted. The archipelago town of Vaxholm has the closest proximity to Stockholm, and Finnhamn and Möja also offer an opportunity to go walking, fishing or takie a winter dip followed by a sauna. There is also a restaurant run by two gay women at Storholmen with an excellent menu and friendly service.

If you fancy a little less scenery and more scene, try Stockholm Pride, located in Pride Park in Tantolunden on Södermalm. The festival has special DogTag tickets, where holders can enjoy a variety of music with some big name artists. With gay-friendly accommodation also on offer such as centrally-based Hotel Hasselbacken, Lady Hamilton Hotel, Pensionate Oden city and Victory Hotel. If you fancy a more Scandinavian feel (that does not necessarily resemble an IKEA interior!) try the Clarion hotel or the Nordic light for a truly inspirational getaway.
