Allcover Financial Services Partner Laura Mullins talks to g3 about getting on the property ladder as a Key Worker.

g3: Why did you start Allcover?

LM: Our female clients have previously commented that discussing their financial issues with women is easier and more relaxed compared to dealing with men. We are a compassionate company, and our priority will always be to offer good customer service and independent advice.

g3: Why do you feel it is important for women to seek financial advice from other women specifically?

LM: Women working with women can achieve a sense of mutual success that cannot be matched. It’s all about understanding.

g3: Do you have an opinion on the government’s drive in support for key workers?

LM: It means public sector workers can afford to live in cities where they might previously have struggled just to pay the rent. With loans available up to 100K, it makes buying your first home that much easier. Shared Ownership schemes are also a great option.

g3: We’ve been told that Shared Ownership isn’t a popular choice as people are reluctant to invest in something they won’t completely own.

LM: Instead of raising a full mortgage on a new home, you buy part of it immediately and pay a subsidised rent on the remainder. You always have the option to buy more shares in the property increasing your equity, or even to purchase it totally.
