London Friend in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support are looking at what extent cancer affects the LGBT community. The organisation is starting research into the affects of cancer on lesbians and bi-women.

Some of the issues that have already been mentioned are around the sufferer’s partner not being recognised as their carer or next of kin, or feeling comfortable in discussing their sexuality with a health professional, and living with more than one illness that has been experienced as life threatening.

Jose Veiga from London Friend said: “We feel that there may be a need for a support service as there is some evidence that certain cancers can be more prevalent within gay men. We are also starting research on the effects of cancer on lesbians and bi women. We would like to hear your views on this subject.”

Are you affected by cancer? Do you know any gay, bisexuals or lesbians affected by cancer? If you would be willing to share your views on this and which services would be of benefit, please contact London Friend by email on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
